Since Barack Obama first tossed his hat into the ring, hip-hop has been on his side. The possibility of seeing a Black President was enough to get many in the culture to get behind his campaign.
That didn’t stop Michelle Obama from telling the graduates at Bowie State University on Friday morning to encourage young African-Americans to dream of becoming teachers, lawyers, or business leaders, rather than “fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper.”
Contrary to the First Lady’s message, the Obama family has been extremely open about their admiration of hip-hop artists.
Common, Jay-Z and more have been invited to the White House in the past.
