An 8-year-old girl was killed in an auto accident early Friday morning in northwest Atlanta.
The child was taken to an area hospital where she died,Atlanta Police spokeswoman Kim Jones said.
The woman driving the vehicle also was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for her injuries, police said.
Police were called to the intersection of Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and Fulton Industrial Boulevard around 7:15 a.m., for the accident that involved a white truck.
“The driver of the white truck was travelling eastbound and tried to make a left turn,” Jones said. “As the grey vehicle was coming through the intersection (the truck) clipped the vehicle in the rear and sent it into a spin.”
Jones said the light the truck saw was green, but the driver is still at fault.
“He did not allow her to clear the intersection before he made the turn,” Jones said.
Police initially characterized the wreck as a hit-and-run, but Jones said the driver of the truck returned to the scene of the accident.
Eastbound lanes were closed on Hollowell and westbound traffic was backed up to I-285 for a time, but traffic has since cleared.
Police are investigating.
