A woman accused of driving over her own son after allegedly shoplifting at a mall is headed back to jail.
A Houston County judge declined Thursday morning to set bond for 25-year-old Arkebia Albury at a bond hearing.
Last month, Centerville Police say Albury ran over her 4-year-old son, Jayden Albury, as she ran from the Belk store.
The boy was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Prosecutor Greg Winters said the boy suffers from brain swelling and his family may remove him from life support on Friday. He said he is not sure the boy would survive that.
Charges against Albury include cruelty to children and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
Her lawyer showed the court a plaque that named Albury the Davis Homes’ ‘Parent of the Year.’ That award was presented in April by the Macon-Bibb County Equal Opportunity Council.
Winters asked Judge Edward Lukemire not to grant bond.
He said, before that accident, Albury failed to show up for court for several previous court appearances on unrelated charges.
Winters also said Albury should not be released to live with other family members, who may be witnesses in her trial.
Albury’s lawyer said his client wanted to attend those previous court hearings, but didn’t have the money to pay court fines. He said all those fines are now paid.
