Former NBA guard Mookie Blaylock was involved in a car crash in Atlanta last week that claimed the life of another person. Blaylock himself was taken to the hospital after the crash and put on life support for a period of time. He was taken off later that day.

News broke this weekend the one-time All-Star point guard will face two charges following the crash.

Blaylock was charged with driving on a suspended license and failing to stay in his lane, according to Jonesboro (Ga.) Police Chief Franklin Allen.

Police officials have yet to talk to Blaylock due to the serious injuries he sustained, but they hope to do so on Monday. That interview and talks with prosecutors could determine whether Blaylock faces other charges, according to AP.

Allen said Blaylock was driving an SUV Friday afternoon when he crossed over the median and struck a van head-on, injuring two people. A passenger in the van, Monica Murphy, died Friday evening, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

According to the paper, Blaylock had been under treatment for seizures, but it was unknown whether that played a role in the crash. Investigators don’t believe alcohol was involved.

Blaylock spent 13 seasons in the NBA, the majority of them with the Atlanta Hawks, and averaged 13.5 points and 2.3 steals per game.

The team released a statement Friday to the Journal-Constitution: “We are saddened to hear of the accident today involving Mookie Blaylock and the Murphy family and the ensuing passing of Monica Murphy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all involved.”
