An alleged Brooklyn drug dealer fired at cops in the middle of a street in broad daylight Thursday morning (Jan. 16th). Luckily, cops were able to apprehend the shooter, who was slapped with a slew of charges, including attempted aggravated murder of a police officer and criminal sale of a controlled substance.
According to the NYPD, police officers Essig and Palminteri, who are part of the uniformed Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit of the 83rd Precinct, were tipped off about a drug deal at Garden Street and Flushing Avenue in Bushwick.
One shot went into the van of Osvaldo Valdez, who told the Daily News, “I saw two cops getting a guy on the corner. The guy had a pistol and he’s shooting. And the bullet came right to my car.” Valdez says he helped the cops subdue the suspect, “I grabbed him and throw him on the floor and I put two hands on his back. And then I put my right foot on his head.”
The police, who found a .380 Browning semi-automatic, identified the suspect as Darren Moore, of Brooklyn. He was charged with aggravated attempted murder of a police officer, criminal sale of a controlled substance, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Valdez added, “Those two officers have to receive some award for not shooting him.”
